Delayed Arrival Within 30 Days from J-1 Program Start Date

If you are arriving in the U.S. within 30 days from the J-1 program start date listed on your UCI DS-2019 document, please report this to the International Center and UCI host department. You may use the current UCI DS-2019 document for entry to the U.S., along with your other immigration documents.

As a friendly reminder you will also need to complete the mandatory new J-1 scholar check-in process with the International Center upon arrival in the U.S. You can only begin UCI J-1 program activities once the check-in process is completed and your SEVIS record is in “active” status.

Delayed Arrival After 30 Days from J-1 Program Start Date

If you are arriving in the U.S. after 30 days from the J-1 program start date listed on your UCI DS-2019 document, you will need to report this to the International Center and your UCI host department. The International Center will work with you and your host department to update your J-1 SEVIS record to accommodate your delayed arrival in the U.S. and to UCI.

You will receive an updated UCI DS-2019 document reflecting your adjusted J-1 program start date. The updated DS-2019 document is needed for your delayed arrival in the U.S., along with your other immigration documents. Your SEVIS ID and J-1 program number will remain the same.

Please contact the International Center at internationalscholar@uci.edu if you are anticipating delayed arrival in the U.S. and to UCI.
