In-Absentia registration applies to full-time regularly enrolled and registered graduate students who have an academic need to conduct research outside of California (or in some cases by exception, within California but outside the Southern California area) for a period of up to one academic year. In-Absentia registration policy and FAQs can be found here.

Steps to Apply for In-Absentia:

  • You will need to contact your academic department to initiate the In-Absentia process.
  • Once you initiate this process, the request will go through a DocuSign process and an advisor at the International Center will reach out to you for additional information to finalize your request.
  • Once we receive information about your In-Absentia, we will forward your request onto Graduate Division for final approval.
