Dismissal or Suspension

This is general information to help you understand how your visa status will be impacted in case of a dismissal or suspension from UCI.

We recommend that you schedule an appointment with an International Student Advisor to discuss your specific situation and get visa status options.

Dismissal

If you are dismissed and no longer enrolled at UCI, you will lose your visa status. The International Center is required to update your SEVIS record to indicate that you will no longer be an enrolled student.

If you have been admitted into another U.S. school, it may be possible to request a SEVIS transfer to your new school; or you may return to your home country.

Options if you are dismissed:

  1. Leave the U.S. for the length of your suspension; or
  2. If you are admitted to another school, you may be able to request a SEVIS Transfer to your new school.

Suspension

If you are suspended from UCI, you will not be allowed to enroll at UCI during the period of suspension. The International Center will be notified of your suspension and your immigration record will be terminated and will no longer be active.

Options during your suspension period:

  1. Leave the U.S. for the length of your suspension; or
  2. If you are admitted to another school, you may be able to request a SEVIS Transfer to your new school.

If you plan to return to UCI in the future, you will need to request a new visa document as a returning student.
