If a J-1 scholar requires extra time to complete their program objective at UCI. The academic department must request an extension of the DS-2019.
Processing Timeline
The request should be submitted to the International Center as soon as possible, but at least 30 days prior to the current expiration of the scholar’s DS-2019 visa document. A scholar’s DS-2019 must be extended before the expiration date of the current DS-2019.
All J-1 initial requests must be submitted to the International Center through the Scholar Upload Tool. Please login with your UCInetID and follow the instructions to upload a complete J-1 extension request packet. The general processing time for an extended DS-2019 visa document is 15 business days from the time a complete request is submitted to the International Center. IC Scholar Advising staff will notify the UCI host department and scholar by email once the UCI DS-2019 document is available.
